A resident of the Cherkasy region will be in prison for a terrible crime: he stole dog food

How serious is it to steal dog food? A guy from the Cherkasy region was sentenced by a court to two years in prison for not paying 15 kilograms of feed at the checkout. This happened two years ago.

What are the details of this high-profile case?

A sentence was announced to a 44-year-old man in the Sosnovsky district of the city of Cherkassy recently. He was charged with secretly embezzling someone else’s property. In the Criminal Code, it is qualified as “theft”.

This person had already served a sentence in places of deprivation of liberty under the same article and, therefore, this crime was committed repeatedly. It is an onerous factor for the court. According to the materials of the case, it becomes known the accused took a 15-kilogram bag of feed from the shelf in a pet store and left the premises without paying on October 22, 2019. Such illegal actions caused material damage in the amount of 1375 hryvnias.

During the trial, the accused was questioned. He fully confessed to what he had done. The court took into account a sincere admission of guilt when sentencing. According to the previous verdict, the conviction was not canceled in the amount of 7 months of probation, which the court partially added to the new term of one and a half years. After performing arithmetic calculations, the court sentenced the person to imprisonment for a term of 2 years and one month. This is provided for by part two of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

It is important to understand the official sentence to 2 years for 15 kilograms of feed has not yet entered into force. Because the law gives you 30 days to appeal. However, most likely, this will not happen, since the accused fully admitted his guilt in the court of first instance.
